Welcome to Newburgh, New York, located in the Mid-Hudson river valley just 60 miles from New York City. It may seem like a calm, beautiful place to live but this city is ranked number 9 for one of the most dangerous cities in America due to poverty, drugs and organized crime.

Today I am standing outside the Newburgh Ministry, where members of the community who are in need of food, shelter, or simply just companionship come here to receive the aid they need to live a more safe and healthy way of life.

Instead of focusing on all of the negative aspects of the city, today i am going to be focusing on one of the positives. The Newburgh ministry located on John Street is one of these positive attributions to the city.

It has been around since 1983

The amazing people behind the ministry had a dream and vision which called them to listen to the needs of the people in the city of Newburgh’s East End – one of the states most impoverished and devastated areas. Their desire was to try to find a way to companion the people caught in the cycle of poverty, and together find a way out.

Today I will speaking with the executive director of the ministry, Colin Jarvis in regards to his efforts to help those in need and to talk about the many great things that the ministry has to offer for its community members in need.
