Fireworks or Gun Shots?

Tamira Evans is a 12-year-old girl who is born and raised in Newburgh, NY. She explains that her mother usually tells her that the gunshots she hears throughout a typical day or evening, are just fireworks. Evans has grown mature enough to know that this is not true and that her mother is just trying to protect her.“Usually my mom will scream, “Get down,” I’ll say to her, “copy!” and then put a blanket over my head as a shield, even though I know that wouldn’t really save me,” said Evans.
