The ministry is the product of five religious women from different congregations. There names are, Monica McGloin, Irene Freely, Suzanne La Chapple, Margaret Kilpatrick, and Monica Galligan. Their reasoning for opening the ministry was to try to find a way to companion the people caught in the cycle of poverty, and together find a way out. With the help of volunteers and community members that were skilled in education, parenting, cooking or just being a helpful hand, the ministry was able to thrive. In 1987, a move was made to the former Hudson Sewing Machine Company, a large warehouse on Johnston Street. The ministry provides the jumpstart program for kids in regards to education as well as the Winterhaven program or homeless shelter, a thrift shop that provides items for 25-50 cents, as well as a play and learn area for children and lastly, a medical facility.
